Wireless Media Center Remote Control for Laptops

Though I’m not a Windows Media Center user I am thinking more and more to rely on it whenever I buy a new DVD movie or music videos. That’s because it is a cool looking and useful media center through which you can control any entertainment application on your computer running Windows Vista or XP operating system.

Being used to watch movies on my desktop monitor, which is larger than my laptop’s, I am thinking of getting a small PC Card laptop remote control supported by Windows Media Center, and connect my mobile computer to the larger monitor.

It seems a great idea that would allow one to save time searching for each player installed in the computer, as well as space for the installations, and instead focus on a single application with all features in one.

We found a popular PCMCIA laptop remote control at SoucingMap, which can be used wirelessly from up to 30 meters away in any position, thanks to the 2.4GHz wireless technology used also by the Bluetooth standard, and the USB receiver that connects to one of your free USB ports, just like wireless computer mice.

The remote and its wireless USB receiver can be easily inserted into your laptop’s PCMCIA slot and carried with you wherever you go inside your laptop.
When you are in the mood to watch something for fun you can take the receiver out, insert it into an USB port and press the buttons on the slim remote control, browsing through your media files. It recognizes Windows applications like Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, Power DVD, Winamp, and PowerPoint, and you can control DVDs, play music, flip through pictures, set the right volume for sounds, with Fast Forward, Rewind, Play, Pause and so on. Even more, you can customize key settings.

The laptop remote control is a plug-and-play device, meaning you won’t need to install special software for it to work. It is designed to function immediately after the computer detects it.

A Li-Ion battery powers it and recharges while inside the PCMCIA slot. It measures only 86 x 54 x 5 mm at 75 grams and has a price of $27.49.

(Thanks, Simon!)
