Review: Sony VAIO VGN-TXN15P

Sony VAIO VGN TXN15P LaptopsSony has addressed our only major beef with its TX series by ditching the sluggish Cingular EDGE modem in favor of Sprint's EV-DO network, offering true mobile broadband speeds for road warriors. The result is a first-class ultraportable that not only quickly downloads everything you need, but also lasts more than eight hours on a charge and boasts a built-in DVD drive—perfect for in-flight double features.

Just like earlier TX models, the Sony VAIO VGN-TXN15P expertly balances portability and usability. Thanks to its carbon fiber chassis, this system weighs only 2.8 pounds. The lid is razor-thin but provides ample protection for the 11-inch widescreen display (1366 x 768 pixels). The screen is certainly on the small side, but zooming up to 150 percent in Word and pressing “Ctrl +” in Firefox make this a non-issue.

Sony's XBrite technology means you can expect a very bright and vivid picture, especially when watching movies and showing off photos.
