Replacement Notebook Fan

Every now and then you need to replace something on your notebook. Reasons include improving or broken parts. The good thing is that being so popular; notebook parts can be found easily without having to spend so much money, depending on the brand and on the part needing replacement.

Replacement of the fan costs you from $15-$20 depending on the model and maybe some extra money if you decide to get a specialist to help. But if follow some simple instructions you can do it yourself and save the extra money.

Being so small notebooks might be a bit hard to disassemble as all parts are minimized and you have to take extra care in changing the parts and going into it. Notebooks tend to get hotter depending on the amount of time you keep them running and replacing the fan if it became a bit old and does not cope any more is a solution. Other solution could be getting a special support for your notebook that assures it gets cooler and doesn’t heat up the place you put it directly on.  You will need a screwdriver to get the job done and of course the replacement fan. Start by powering down the notebook and unplug the external devices you have connected.

Then take out any parts that are accessible like RAM or disk drives. Remove the screws located on the back panel and those near the keyboard. Make sure you put all the screws in one place you don’t want then to run around desperately looking for them. Now remove the pack panel of the notebook or the keyboard (this is because the location depends on the company which produces the notebooks or the model of the notebook).

Afterwards you will have to disassemble all the components that are in the way of the fan. Do it carefully so you don’t misplace or harm any part, don’t be brutal they are quite gentle. Unscrew the fan and the power cord which usually have only a wire or two. Now place the new fan in the olds one place and screw it. Put back the power cord also and put every screw and part back together. Power you notebook and see if the fan works properly.

In case of some notebooks you can download the manual from the website and there you will find specific information on the model you have to do any adjustments or part assembling you need. There is also a little trick to improve the notebook’s fan quality. It concerns BIOS settings. Here is what you should do: boot your computer and press F1 key (or F10 depending on the notebook’s age) until the BIOS screen appears. Select System Monitor from the BIOS menu and press Enter. Then go to Dynamic Fan Control and click Enter.

A list with fans will appear (including CPU fan, case fan and some other) select from there at each point 100%, meaning you will increase the fan’s capacity and make it run at 100%. Then just click F10 and save all changes and reboot your computer. The difference will be noticed in noise and speed.
