Palm Pre Driving People Crazy
Posted by: adimoga in News
This little new miracle can be found at Sprint stores, Best Buy, Radio Shack, select Walmart stores, and online at Sprint.com and you must "pre-pare" because everybody is hurrying to try Palm Pre for $199 with a 2-year contract. If you don’t want to buy the Palm Pre with a contract, it will cost you $549.99. There hasn't been announced yet a release date for Canada, but the company confirmed that it will be available in the second half of 2009.Palm Pre has a nice design and it's less "boxy" than its competitors' smartphones, I-phone and G1.It fits good in the hand both closed and opened, and it is built with quality materials.
Its physical sliding mini-keyboard can be seen as an advantage, compared to virtual keyboards which tend to be slower and less prefferd by smartphone users.Palm Pre has a 3,1 inch touchscreen with a 320 x 480 pixels resolution. It has an accelerometer which changes the orientation of the display between portrait and landscape when the smartphone is rotated.
Palm Pre user interface is useful and multitasking is a fundamental attribute of smartphones, because you can receive a phonecall while you are writing an email or get notifications while doing anything without perturbing your activity.
Getting connected with friends, family and colleagues is an important facility offered by smartphones and Palm Pre has a very interesting application which compiles all the virtual communities and various profiles of the owner and communication with other people can be made in a single thread across many services. The images on display are sharper than on Iphone's screen and the text is easier to read;also the speaker seems to be clearer than its competitor's.
All in all, the user interface is simple yet well organised, logic and useful.
Palm Pre "web OS" uses Javascript, HTML and CSS. It has the possibility to use Rss readers but Javascript is slow and it's hard to explore the hardware at 100% of its capacity and is visible weaker than Iphone's development platform. The Pre has 8.0 GB of internal flash storage and it doesnt support memory cards, but it has a 3Mb camera with a LED flash.
Pre responds in an intelligent manner to its surroundings due to the input sensors which have been implemented in this model of smartphone. It has an ambient light sensor which allows the smartphone to automatically adjust the brightness of the displayand the proximity sensor doesn't allow Pre to receive inputs when it is held close to the face during talking. Palm Pre is defined by attention paid to details, and the removable battery or the wireless recharger(one of the first smartphones which uses this feature) are to prove this. It also has the opportunity to be charged using a micro USB cable. It has a great user interface, a better camera than the Iphone and the physical keyboard is a real competitive advantage.
The Pre has received positive reviews from technology critics, has won CNET's Best in Show, Best in Category: Cell Phones & Smartphones, and People's Voice for 2009.Good luck in finding a Palm Pre and don't forget the competition is tight in getting one og these little smart ones: a man got a palm pre tattoo and a guy has camped outside a Sprint store 3 days before the Palm Pre launch.
