Mobile Broadband on Multiple 3G
Posted by: Sierra in Dell

US residents that like to travel accompanied by their laptops will have the chance to connect via Sprint’s EV-DO networks using European Vodafone’s HSDPA without the need for two different broadband cards, and this will be possible starting later this year when Dell will release portable computers with a single-card 3G network connectivity via GOBI.
GOBI technology from Qualcomm is software-configurable and allows users connect at high speeds on UMTS and CDMA networks with the possibility to switch between the two when needed.
Notebook models that will come with this solution are Latitude, Dell Precision and costumer laptops.
This is the public declaration of Greg Raleigh, vice president of product management for Qualcomm CDMA Technologies: "The Gobi solution enables enterprise users and consumers with the freedom of being untethered from Wi-Fi hotspots and connecting to the Internet using 'almost anywhere' cellular broadband connectivity. We are pleased that Dell will be leveraging the flexibility and efficiency Gobi provides to meet the growing needs of mobile data users."
