Microsoft Working on Windows XP Compatibility with the XO Laptops

Microsoft announced that the company’s work on making the basic version of Windows XP to work on the low-cost laptop computer for poor children is almost done. Will Poole, Microsoft Corporate Vice President, said: "We remain hopeful with our progress to date; we still have significant work ahead to finalize our analysis and testing processes."

Currently, the XO computers included in the One Laptop per Child program are running on Linux OS.
China workers will start producing the $188 computers next month planning the manufacturing of million od computers per year, for the kids in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
As a fund-raising campaign, the One Laptop per Child Foundation is selling the product for $400 in United States and Canada.
Mary Lou Jepsen designed these XO laptops to feature are a string pulley to charge its battery, a keyboard that switches between languages, a digital video camera and wireless connectivity.
Quanta Computer Inc will be the manufacturer, but other big companies participated in building the components and software: Advanced Micro Devices Inc, Marvell Technology Group Ltd, and Red Hat Inc.
The XO model measures 242mm×228mm×32mm and weights 1.50KG.
It is resistant at dirt and moisture and has a reversible display.
Inside it has an AMD Geode LX-700@0.8W processor with a clock speed of 433 Mhz, and a graphics controller integrated with the Geode CPU having unified memory architecture.
The embedded controller is either a ENE KB3700 or a ENE KB3700B.
There are 256 MiB of dynamic RAM memory, a 1024KB SPI-interface flash ROM, and 1024 MiB SLC NAND flash with high-speed flash controller.
The display is a dual-mode TFT with liquid-crystal technology, measuring 7.5 inches, and having a resolution of 1200 × 900 resolution (200 DPI).
