LG P300 Notebook with LED Display

Yet another notebook targeting the young sector of the Korean population.
It is called LG P300 Series Premium and is released by LG Korea.

LG P300 Notebook with LED Display

The small notebook has a LED display and measures 13.3 inches with just 21mm thickness, being very easy to connect it to your PC or notebook with an USB cable.
Easy portable, the P300 is keeping the XNote basic design line and has an ergonomic keyboard, providing two casing color options: black/white and mauve/white stripes.

It is small but powerful because it runs on an Intel Core 2 Duo processor at 2.4GHz and integrates the Nvidia Geforce 8600M graphic card with 256MB dedicated memory.
The internal Ram is of 2GB and there are also a 250GB S-ATA hard disk drive and a radio LAN. LG hasn’t forgotten to add the 1.3MP built-in webcam.
The model is very good for HD movies and 3D games because of its outstanding 1280x800 pixels display and a great surround sound provided by the two 1.5W high-power speakers.

If you have road to Korea you will find this laptop at a price of approximately $2,800.
Sounds too expensive for what it has, right?

uhhh, LED display? Unless it is a new type of LED, try going for LCD. (Typo?)

  • Sierra said on Dec 06 07 at 5:31 pm:

It's about LED (Light-Emitting Diode) here not LCD (Liquid Crystal Display).

^^^Instead of the usual fluorescent lamps, LEDs provide the back lighting.

Best laptop deal in the world. At less than $ 1700, CAD, penryn processor (beats the 7500 and 7700 4 meg cache ones), 256 DDR 3 8600 GTS... Have you guys checked the benchmarks of the el cheapo DDR2 8400 vs the 8600? See tomshardware.com, bottom of the pile vs high ladder location.

BTW, THE P-300 HAS carbon nanotube cooling technology, and on the max cooling setting, it is less than whisper quiet (AND, yes, it has THREE Fn control fan modes, on top of the processor controls).

BTW, it thrashes the XPS 1330, which, with a similar but noisier fans, vibrating HDD, costs $ 500 more...

Following questions, here are some additions.:

LED screen surpassing older versions as found with Dell or Sony. It is crisp, and visible form multiple angles. Also, unlike XPS 1330, the P-30 screen tilts 160, not 140...

The 6 cell battery on this machine runs almost as long as 9 cell batteries of the competition. I tried abusing it, to no avail, this machine is faster, smoother and more reliable than any XP built system.

Some wonder as the the 8300 vs 9300 etc. Check the benchmarks, it is brely a 10 % difference in secific tests, negligible in most. What can I say about a machine loading Photoshop CS 3 in 6-7 seconds? Cache? Well, x 3 vs AMD 64s, and X 6 P4 3.2s still out there... Most tasks will never use the cache, and a HDD 7200 RPM is far more likely to make a differenc ethan a cache size...

DUAL CHANNEL RAM AT 1330Mhz (667 x 2 FSB). WOW... and TURBOCACHED VGA RAM.

    LIGHT, les then 4 lbs.

    QUIET means below audible....

NO BLOATWARE LOADED. As in ONLY 4 LG PROGRAMS: Driver Intelligent Update, Magnifier, Cam, and OSD. I was shocked tosee the clean Program and Features and MSCONFIG Startup menu of this machine.

ONE PARTITION, with option to split at the first boot. Try other systems with odd partitions...

SILICONE BASED FIRST GRADE KEYBOARD... Minimal tiping noise (silent by competition standards) and a jewel in itself. No paint coming off, no cheap plastic feel... Lab tested by LG with tens of thousands of strokes, as LG learned to do back in the days with IBM partnership.

THREE LEVEL SOUND, including surround ont he built-ins. Surprisingly good...
HOWEVER: Vista64 not supported (neither does the competition, and 64 VISTA comes with multiple headaches even for Dell 1330). Processor not upgreadble. However, HDD and RAM are upgreadable.

DVD ISSUE: omes with a slim and cool external DVD, which mademe realise how little do I really need it. Remember Floppy disks and the add-on now? USB rocks. the external DVD plays movies like a charm. Also, it reduces the weight of the machine, and cooling requirements... while increasing battery life..

So, for those not willing ot compromise on the DVD issue, all I can say is ask, when was it you last really, really needed a DVD? We are moving to the download world for everything, movies and music. Remember, it still comes with a sleek external DVD drive... you wil rarely feel the need to attach...

LG HAS PROMISED TO UPDATE ITS LISTING SITE SOON. This is why the item descitption is not visible in most countries.

Why am I still stunned? As I never saw this machine coming, not outside an Apple desk...

    all the best..

@ meteor: So you actually have the laptop? That's cool, since I have not found a single review of this nice piece on the net.

May I ask some questions about it?

    1. Display: On the photos shown above in the article, it seems LG uses the same anti-reflection technology as Sony is, with the effect of a blue / purple (but much less disturbing) reflection. Is this the case? And is the Display bright enough for outside-use?

    2. Battery lifetime: Have you checked out the battery life using Vista or XP? Can you give an approximate estimate of the average runtime when on battery? More than 4 hours?

    3. Noise: You say, it is whisper quiet, which pleases me a lot, since this is one of the most important aspects of a laptop. Just to make sure: there is also no whining (high-frequency noise that can only be perceived in very silent atmosphere)?

    Thank you for all information!

    Cheers, ichi

    ichi-
I bought this laptop a few days ago. To answer your questions:
    1) The screen does have a violet anti-reflection coating, but I actually didn't notice it until reading your question. It isn't disturbing. The screen is very bright and clear, comparable to good quality desktop LCD screens. It's still winter in Canada, so I haven't tried it outside yet :)

    2) Battery life with vista seems to be 3-4 hours of non-gaming use, haven't tried gaming off the battery yet.

    3) I'm sensitive to high-frequency noise and easily annoyed by fans, but this laptop is delightfully quiet.

Also, the HDD is 5400rpm, not 7200.

Thanks a lot, george, it sounds like this laptop is one of the best that I have ever seen. I think it will be my new "toy" :)

I am not a hugely techy person, but do want and need good value for my dollar. My review is written from the point of view of someone who needs to use a laptop everyday but has to hire tech support when things go wrong..

I recently purchased my husband an LG E300 with 3MB Ram and 250GB HDD, He was so impressed with it that I considered it myself. But, was waiting for the release of the HP Voodoo and I considered the THINK pad xp300 (did not consider the Mac Book Air because I cannot run my real estate programs on it - this I know because I have the large IMAC.) I was considering these laptops because I wanted stylish, small and light, with reliability and power

So, I checked LG's site and was thrilled to find the LG P300 with 4MB Ram and a 320GB HDD with a 13.3 display - it is only available in Canada exclusive to Future Shop...I picked it up for $1500 CDN and love it. It answers my size and weight wishes, it is sleek and stylish (I have the dual red wine colour), it exceeds the hard drive size and power I was hoping to keep. The exteranl cd/dvd drive is a great option as I am weening my mindset off of the need for a dvd drive. (I can't remember the last time I needed this drive in my laptop for anything beyond the instalation of a microsoft program.)
(Though I do use my IMAC for Movie Making and therefore use the drive on it).
I have had the LG P300 for less than a week but am thrilled with the bang I got for my dollar. I have found the battery to run very close to the 4 hours promised (I know that will change with age). One of my daughters is a serious gamer and said she got 3 hours and 25 minutes out of the battery in a gaming session. The only complaint my techy daughter had is that it runs a little warmer than her much larger HP laptop while gaming.

In our household we currently have 2 Compaq's, 1 HP's , a Toshiba Tablet PC, an Acer,a Dell and 2 LG's. (All are under a year and half old except the Compaq and Dell) We are becoming rapidly more impressed with the LG's as each day goes by. And would not hesitate to recommend an LG Laptop.
