KVM Switch for Laptops

IOGEAR announced the release of a new network device which is the world’s first KVM switch that enables control of any computer on the network via your own laptop. The Californian company is knows as one of the top manufacturers of innovative and fun solutions like KVMs and KVM Peripheral, networking, A/V Digital, home and mobility devices.

Keyboard, Video or Visual Display Unit, Mouse switches are special devices designed to enable multiple computer control using a single keyboard, video monitor and mouse. All these computers are connected to the KVM switch via USB cables and the control functions in the opposite way as well. All is done without the need for a monitor connected to the target computer, and this way you can easily transfer files between systems, especially if you benefit from the software the KVM switch comes with. This program lets you drag and drop files or backup copies between systems.

Additionally you can connect peripherals to the KVM switch, such as printers, scanners, external hard drives, digital cameras, speakers, MP3 players and web cameras, and then access all from the laptop. The switch adapts the PCs resolution to the laptop’s.

"Our USB Laptop KVM Switch provides laptop users a simple space- and device-saving solution compared with traditional KVM switches. It also makes file sharing easy, sparing users from having to set up a network," said Miranda Su, executive vice president at IOGEAR. "We strive to develop innovative technologies that address growing consumer needs. The laptop is the preferred device for mobile computing and we make it easier for road warriors to bridge the gap between their on-the-go, home and work lives."

The USB Laptop KVM Switch comes at a retail price of $129.95 and is compatible with Windows 2000, XP and Vista operating systems.

Great utility hardware for the computer repair toolbox or for a small network. I have had no issues with the IOGEAR GCS661U - sharing a drive or printer is slick, too.

    Amazon - Search 'GCS661U' - should be < $100.
