The HP Pavilion dv2 is one model you can surely afford.  For the price of $750 you can purchase this 12.1 inch display laptop that has an ATI Radeon HD 3410 graphics card and 4 GB of RAM. This model may not be the most powerful one (in fact, performance on this laptop is quite relative) but the good part is that it's small and the battery life is pretty good (about 3 hours). The keys are just a bit smaller than your usual laptop keys. The surface of the laptop is black and glossy, appealing to the eye. Even though it weighs 3.8 pounds, this laptop has a flash-card reader, wireless device, three USB ports, HDMI and VGA video outputs and some Altec Lansing Speakers.

A more powerful laptop model is the HP Pavilion dv7- 2185dx. It's worth about 1300 dollars and for this price you get a 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 processor, an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 graphics card plus some 6 GB of RAM and 500 GB of available disk space. The display is 17.3 inches long and it is combined with a glossy black case and swirly pattern. Just like other HP Pavilion models, this one also has those touch sensitive media controls we have grown so fond of. Compared to other laptops with similar prices, the HP Pavilion dv7- 2185dx has a very good processor. You can also use this laptop for mainstream games with the help of the 1GB version of the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 graphics card.

Another model which is worth the while is the HP Pavilion dv6500t. There are some extra gadgets you can get with this laptop that are different from other models. You can ask for a fingerprint reader (it will cost you extra) and a HD-DVD drive. The keys are full-sized and easy to press which make typing a real pleasure. The touch-sensitive multimedia control buttons are present here as well, which make the HP Pavilion dv6500t easier to use for multimedia necessities. In terms of performance the Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 processor is nothing to complain about, while the Intel GMA X3100 integrated graphic card will definitely help you fulfill you mainstream tasks. This laptop is acceptable for its price. The battery lasts about 2 hours and 40 minutes and the wireless performance will help you can get some good internet speed from any room in your home if you have a wireless router connection.

The HP Pavilion dm3t is certainly one of the top models for 2009. With spacing between the keys, this reminds us of the Sony VAIO Z Series which has a similar keyboard. The surface of the touchpad is way too glossy and it's easy to get it dirty with fingerprints. It has an Intel Core 2 Duo U7300 processor with 2 GB of RAM and the operating system is the new Windows 7. Apparently it does not boot very fast and it also tends to overheat. The battery was tested by continuously surfing the internet with a wireless connection and the battery lasted almost 9 hours which is very impressive. It may just turn out to be a good investment.

If you own a HP Pavilion dv5t that you certainly have something to brag about. The Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 processor and the Nvidia GeForce 9600M-GT w/ 512MB DDR2 graphics card make this laptop worth its money. The design is astonishing. All the corners are rounded off and the display has one big hinge. This laptop is all black and silver with glossy surfaces. The keyboard is silver and so is the base of the laptop. Typing is a really cool experience with the keys of this laptop as they are smooth and shiny.  The touchpad is not so bad either, since you have the left/right button and the scroll function on the right. The nice thing is that on/off button which can prove very useful. The laptop can overheat especially when you play games, then the graphic card heats up. Aside from you regular USB ports which are available on all laptop models, you also have an eSATA port which is good and useful if you decide to attach external drives. You also get your usual 802.11b/g card. As for the operating system, you should go with 32 or 64 bit Vista to improve your laptops performance. Thanks to its design and characteristics, the HP Pavilion dv5t will surely make you happy for some years to come (if you handle it properly, that is). It's very durable, since the case in not made of some cheap plastic but be careful, scratches are visible, especially since we have that shiny and glossy surface. You should always have a microfiber towel in handy to clean your laptop in a proper manner.
