External Sony Laptop Monitors
Posted by: LaptopsArena in Sony
Laptops these days come with more features than one needs. But it is a good thing they are there, because you never know when an opportunity comes up and you will use them. For instance, many laptops these days have the ability to be connected to external monitors and HDTVs. This is possible due to existence of some ports, such as VGA or HDMI; some laptops have them both. Especially when dealing with Sony systems, which are known for using latest technologies, you can be sure that your Sony Vaio has the needed connectivity to hook it up to another device.
To connect a Sony laptop to external monitor you will need a VGA cable. Sometimes, you might feel that the display of the laptop is not suitable for some actions and you would prefer a larger view. Perhaps you want to watch some videos, you want to see concerts downloaded online, browse through pictures and so on. An external monitor is larger without doubts than a laptop’s screen, so using a single cable; you can turn your Sony laptop into a desktop computer. The steps are fairly simple and you can do it without any problems. First of all, plug the VGA cable in the VGA port on your Sony laptop (there are three rows on the port of small pin inserts) and tighten the screws on the sides of the cable, to make sure connection is stable. Plug the other side of the cable in the VGA port on the back of the monitor and power up both devices. On your laptop, at the top of the keyboard you have the F row of keys. Press the one that has the monitor icon on it. This will send the picture from your Sony to the external monitor. the button does exist on all Sony laptops, just that it is different depending on the model you own.

And now that we are done showing how to connect Sony laptop to external monitor, let’s also see how to connect your laptop to your TV using HDMI port. The HDMI port provides the highest video and audio input with the best quality in imaging. Instead of the VGA cable, you will need the HDMI one. Turn off your Sony laptop and HDTV and connect one end of the cable to your system and one to the TV. Now power on both devices and right-click on your desktop and select Screen Resolution from the menu. On the window, select the screen “2”, located near the top of the window, representing your TV. Set the screen resolution for your HDTV by clicking the drop down menu and in case you are not sure what to set up, check the user manual of the TV to see exactly.

Now click on the drop-down menu next to “Multiple Displays” and select your option, if you want the display duplicated or selected, meaning you want the image on your laptop and TV or only on one of the devices. Now grab the TV remote and push the input button and navigate to one of the HDMI inputs to receive the image from your laptop computer. And this is how things get done, making your laptop act as more devices in one, turning out to be more useful than you thought.
