Guess who is bringing the world’s first multi-touch convertible tablet on the market? It’s Dell, the No. 34 on the Fortune 500 top, a world leader in innovative mobile technologies.
The Dell Latitude XT tablet has now multi-touch support via the downloadable software provided by the company on its website at www.support.dell.com. From there, owners of the tablet model can upgrade for free with the new module and install it using the user-friendly guide. See it in action above.
“We introduced the Latitude XT as a revolutionary product in the tablet space,” said Jeff Clarke, senior vice president, Dell Product Group. “Today Dell is taking that commitment to a new level with multi-touch functionality. We plan to finish this year with 50 percent more products in our laptop portfolio and deliver innovation our competitors can’t match.”
Among these releases, are also the next generation Latitude laptops, as well as the 128 GB Solid State Drives starting at $649.
“We’ve led the industry in offering the broadest product portfolio available with solid state drive technology to help customers avoid hard drive failure – which is one of the leading causes of data loss and hardware failure,” said Clarke. “With the introduction of the 128 GB solid state drive, we’re delivering capacity that meets the majority of our customers’ needs with increased durability and reliability at a great price.”

Besides the capacitive touch input supporting scrolling, zoom and programmable double-tap, the Dell Latitude XT, 1-inch thin tablet weighting 3.57 pounds, comes with a 12.1-inch display featuring optional Latitude XT DLV panel for the brightest screen of 400 nits, or the WXGA LED- backlit LCD.
In addition it features Intel Core 2 Solo ULV U2100 processor clocked at 1.06GHz or the U7600 at 1.20GHz, the ATI Radeon X1250 UMA Graphics chip, up to 3GB memory, 6-cell Li-ion battery, up to 120GB HDD or optional 64GB SSD, the Windows Vista Business or Windows XP operating system pre-installed, and a nice and durable carrying case made of leather or nylon.
The multi-touch technology allows you to scroll horizontally and vertically using 2 fingers at the same time, zoom with 2 fingers, and set 2 finger taps command to launch applications or turn the screen Off and save power.
The SSD drive is shock resistant and offers 22% better performance, compared to a standard Hard Disk Drive, while the 802.11n standard is the support for the upcoming fastest wireless connectivity.
Dell Latitude XT is available at around $1,400.
