First of all turn off the laptop and take out all power resources and that means the battery and the AC adapter. Using the screwdriver unscrew the laptop from its hinge. They are placed on the back of the laptop. Now open the display as much as you can but don’t force it too hard. Now use the flat head screwdriver and pry the hinge from right to left. Don’t pull the hinge out directly as it is still attached to some wires on the chassis, even with the power button.



Use the Philips screwdriver to unscrew the keyboard. Remember to put all screws in one place, better have a special container, you don’t want after that to search for them and go mad. Now you can lift up the keyboard from the laptop and release the ribbon connector from the motherboard. Now you can take out the keyboard for good and put back in the new one. To finish the job you can put the ribbon connector into the fastener and then to the motherboard. Get the screws and screw the new keyboard in place. When you put it in secure the hinge by sliding it from left to right. Now you have to close the display of the laptop and screw the hinge in the back of the laptop in place.



As you can see it is not hard to do it and it doesn’t need a specialist. If you are a bit handy and have the right tools you can do it yourself. It is fast doesn’t involve any risk and you don’t have to wait the days or hours if you put it in service. Compaq keyboards are inexpensive, easy to find and easy to install. In fact all Compaq Presario laptops have reasonable prices and you don’t have to worry if something breaks down as replacements are easy to find and cheap to buy.
