The E205 is a Toshiba Satellite laptop that comes at a price of $900 and it has great specs and a very hot look; just the right ingredients to make this laptop your next purchasing choice. This unit is based on a 2.26 GHz Intel Core i5 430M processor and 4 GB of DDR3 RAM. The total storage capacity of the hard drive is 500 GB.

This laptop comes with a 14 inch display which has a native resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. The vertical viewing angles are good but not as good as the horizontal ones. The speakers are OK, but don’t expect any awesome sound performance. They will cover an average room with quality sound but external speakers are not a bad idea either.

The keyboard is probably one of the best features of this
Toshiba Satellite laptop because it is spacious and very comfortable to type on. The keys feel very pleasant to the touch and they offer positive feedback. On the right side of the keyboard, there is a set of touch sensitive control buttons which are easy to trigger by accident. You can hit them with your right pinky and trigger the designated function. A very cool thing is the backlight features which makes typing in the dark really easy.

The touchpad is very responsive so for those moments when you are travelling, you can easily use it instead of an external mouse. The left and right touchpad buttons were a bit difficult to press using your thumbs so if you have the necessary amount of room around you, you may want to consider using an external mouse. When it comes to the selection of ports and features, it is important to know that this laptop comes with 2 USB ports, one eSATA and USB combo port. The surprise is the included HDMI port which was not common for 14 inch laptops as it could not even be found on 17 inch desktop replacements in the past. The unit also comes with a VGA out, an Ethernet port, a Kensington lock slot, an SDHC card reader and the regular headphones out and microphone in jacks.

Battery performance is always a delicate and important chapter for a 14 inch laptop which is portable and offers the possibility for you to use it when you are way from a power outlet. With the display brightness set to 70%, the wireless card activated and the Windows 7 power management profile set to “Balanced mode”, you are bound to get about 4 hours and 45 minutes of battery life which is pretty good performance for a laptop that has specs like this Toshiba laptop model. In conclusion, not only do you get a laptop that has the necessary looks to attract the eyes of the people passing by, but you also get a unit with great built in quality, good multitasking capabilities and a laptop that can perform all the necessary mainstream computing tasks. And the price is a real winner too!

No matter which is the manufacturer of the laptop that you own, you must be aware of the fact that any laptop can, sooner or later, start showing signs of problems. This does not mean that it is necessarily the manufacturers fault, because I’m pretty sure that you are aware of the fact that nothing lasts forever. Toshiba laptop problems will for example, seem unlikely to me as I have been owning a Toshiba laptop for a year and a half now but there are other users that experienced problems after only a few months of using such a unit.

In some cases, there Toshiba laptop problems can even be fixed by yourself in the comfort of your own home as the repairing process is not that complicated and it does not require any special or uncommon tools. The problems that we are going to describes were experience by Toshiba A60 and A65 owners. One very common problem which is not found only on Toshiba laptops is overheating. Whenever you computer shuts down with no proper warning, you may want to check the bottom side of the laptop and notice if there is any usual and intensive heat found in this area. Inside the laptop there is a heatsink and this heatsink will commonly get clocked with dust. In consequence, all the heat that the processor produces is trapped inside the unit instead of being blown out.

If you want to clean the unit by yourself, there are 2 recommended methods to do that. First of all, you can buy a can of compressed air and simply blow air inside the heat sink, resulting in the dust coming out of the unit. The second method is a bit more complicated and it requires removing the keyboard and manually cleaning the heatsink. I prefer the first method as I would rather not take the laptop apart and damage something else in there.

Another problem that users have complained about with this laptop is a faulty power jack. When you are having problems with the power jack you will notice interruptions in the laptop charging process or it may not even charge at all. Why does this happen? Well, there is a pin inside the laptop that generally get loose from the motherboard so the only way to fix this problem is to mess around inside the laptop. Since the pin does no longer make contact with the motherboard, the laptop will not charge and your notebook will only run on battery power. The solution would require resoldering the pin onto the motherboard. When you plan on opening up your Toshiba laptop, the wisest thing to do is to look for a manual which was written for your particular laptop model. Depending on the laptop model that you own, there are different methods to take the components apart and gain access to the motherboard. You must be very careful because the motherboard is one of the most expensive components of a laptop and if anything gets damaged here, you may have to replace the motherboard completely. If you are not sure about what you are doing, it is best to consult a technician specialized in this field.

When it comes to Toshiba laptops, the Satellite and Qosmio series are the ones that made this laptop brand famous all around the world. In fact, most for the people which I know that own a Toshiba, have a Satellite model.

Just like most well known manufacturers, Toshiba also has different laptop models, from really cheap to very expensive. An example of a cheap Tshiba notebook model is the Toshiba Satellite T135D. The unit reviewed here comes with a 1.6 GHz AMD Turion Neo X2 Dual-Core Mobile L625 processor and 4 GB of DDR3 RAM. With this unit you have the chance to work with the new Windows 7 Home Premium operating system. The total storage capacity of the hard disk is 320 GB and the graphics card is the ATI Radeon 3200. The price of the unit configured here is $599 so this is definitely going to make a good choice for people which are on a budget.

With a 13.3 inch display, this could also be a good choice for an ultraportable unit. The native resolution of this unit is 1366 x 768 pixels. The horizontal viewing angles are great and the contrast and brightness levels are also satisfying. In fact, the brightness level could even handle some outdoor laptop unsafe if you are even in need of such a thing. The screen is covered in a glossy coating which tends to reflect a lot of object in front of it. The speakers of this Toshiba laptop are below the category average because the maximum volume level is not powerful enough. Another problem is the speakers’ location. Too bad that they were placed on the bottom front edge of this laptop. The best location to place laptop speakers is somewhere around the keyboard bezel as the sound can be projected straight towards the user.

The keyboard on this laptop is fully sized and it feels very comfortable to type on these keys. Even if you apply pressure when typing, there is no flex registered in the keyboard area. The touchpad is not that great because the refresh rate is quite slow. It does not make a difference if you download and install the latest drivers. The unit hosts 3 USB port, one 6-in-1 multi format digital media card reader, a Kensington lock slot, a VGA port, one HDMI port, an Ethernet port and the regular headphones out and microphone in jacks. The HDMI port was a very pleasant surprise and one feature that we generally don’t see in 13 inch laptops. The battery life of
Toshiba laptops was never too amazing but the one on this Toshiba Satellite has managed to overcome our greatest expectations. With the display brightness adjusted to 70%, the wireless card activated and the Windows 7 power management profile set to “balanced mode”, this laptop managed to stay on for 5 hours and 50 minutes before completely shutting down. If you turn down the display brightness and deactivate the wireless card and just use the laptop for something as basic as word processing, you could get about 7 hours of laptop usage.

When you are looking to buy a cheap notebook but are not sure just how you can save some money, always think about what kind of laptop features you need. The mistake that most people make is that they buy laptops with features that they are most likely never going to use and they end up paying a lot of money for those units. For instance, why buy a notebook with a fancy graphics card if you are not a game player and have no need for a powerful video card.
