It is difficult to say which the best laptops are as it really depends on what every person is looking to use a unit for. I like to divide laptops into 3 main categories: the gaming laptop, the multimedia laptops and the average laptops, the one for regular use.

When you are looking for a gaming unit, it is without a doubt that the most respectable gaming laptop brand is Alienware. Alienware laptops are not only great and powerful, but they are also quite expensive, as some of the models can reach prices of $4000 depending on how you configure them. The most popular laptop models made by Alienware are the 11x, the 15x, the 17x and the M9750. These unit comes with top of the line processor, sometimes even with 2 graphics cards that can support even 1 GB of video memory. In general, Alienware laptops can provide even 500 GB of free storage space which should be more than enough to store all your favorite games. These gaming laptops have excellent speed and multitasking possibilities so they can handle pretty much any application at incredible time performance. Too bad that gaming units generally come at expensive prices but you could also find gaming laptops which are pretty affordable.

The second category is represented by a saturated market because it is very difficult to say who makes the best laptops when it comes to the multimedia segment. To be very honest, I imagined that the best rated laptop would be a HP or a Dell since they are two of the most powerful laptop manufacturers on the market. Surprisingly, the result was a Lenovo. The Lenovo ThinkPad T400 appears to be one of the best laptops on the market in our days. It has a 14.1 inch widescreen with a screen resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels, which means it is better than most laptops out there.It has a super powerful Intel Core 2 Duo processor. It's also cheaper than the X series (known for the ultra portable models) and the W series (known for its power). You'll find the ThinkPad T400 at an average price of $1,419.  Even if it mainly considered a business notebook, it is of good use in almost any situation. It has some cool features too offer like the switchable graphics, long lasting battery life and good ergonomics. There is even an option for a built-in fingerprint reader which really helps protect the personal data on your laptop. You are probably wondering why this is the best rated laptop. Well, there are 21 expert reviews on the internet that have given excellent grades to various aspects of this laptop. We also found out about 3,487 5-star ratings from users (real users) for this laptop. PC Magazine Readers' Choice Survey says that this laptop is ranked 2^nd for customer support, right after Apple.

And the bronze medal goes to (drums beating hard) the Apple MacBook Pro. This 13 inch laptop has won the hearts of many people that have never even used iPods or iPhones before. It has an aluminum construction, a superb glass over LED display plus those oversized multi touch pads that we have all grown to love. There has been a recent round of updates which can be considered a refinement rather than a revolution. The final touch that was meant to complete the transformation is the reencounter of this laptop with the missing FireWire port, and this makes it more useful for all those professionals which are always on the go. We found an SD card slot which is more good news coming from Apple.



The back lit keyboard is available on the standard model and this is one feature you definitely don’t find in any laptop that supports this function. In the past, Apple also has this nice touch available only on more expensive models. The starting price is lower and that is great news for those people with little money to spend but still craving after an Apple Mac. Now you surely don’t have to own a multinational company to own an Apple MacBook. Unfortunately, the problem of the un-removable battery persists and we are still dreaming about a Blu-ray drive and a less glossy screen.



Although this paragraph may be useless to some (because the MacBook speaks for itself just because it is an Apple product), we are going to tell you why this is one of the best rated laptops around. It has been approved by GreenTech for energy efficiency. That is something you don’t see every day. PC Magazine Readers' Choice Survey tells us that Apple has the best customer support ever. Even if there still are considerable improvements to be done, consumers demand for this product is very high especially since they now offer this 13 inch laptop for a lower price than before. This means the Mac is up and running on the competitive market again. CNet has given the Editors Choice Award which really makes us think highly of this laptop. The Apple operating system is easy to use even for those who have been using Windows operating systems their entire life.



If we were to continue this list, we would have some names like HP Pavilion tx2500z tablet which is great for students that want to take notes in class, the Dell Studio 15 which combines smoothly the laptop portability with some really nice multimedia options, the Fujitsu LifeBook T5010 tablet PC which received the Laptop Logic Editors Choice Award. TheToshibe Portege M700, the Dell inspiron Mini 9, the Sony VAIO CS and the Fujitsu LifeBook T2020 are on the bottom of the top ten list with the best rated laptops.
