Posted by: Sierra in OQO

OQO e2 ultra-portable notebook introduced last year in December is the world’s first UMPC featuring Mobile WiMAX for Sprint Zohm network, according to the new OQO’s press release.
This next-generation wireless networking capability was demonstrated at CES in January and detailing how, using the award-winning and world’s smallest fully-functional Windows Vista PC, the users have access to applications, information, corporate networks and full PC Internet experience via Mobile the Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access telecommunications technology.
WiMAX is adopted for wireless access over very long distances using point-to-point links and full mobile cellular type, being the best alternative to DSL and cable.
Mobile WiMAX is a wireless broadband network that will be soon featured by all mobile devices and this started with the OQO e2, a small but powerful PC running on Windows XP or Vista operating system, with a VIA C7M ULV processor at 1.6GHz, integrating 1GB of DDR II SDRAM memory at 533 MHz speed, up to 120GB of hard drive storage or the 32GB SSD option, and VIA VX700 chipset.
For connectivity it comes with Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, HDMI, VGA, Ethernet, HDMI-DVI, docking/power and USB, while the Li-Pol battery lasts for up to six hours.
Available at around $2,500, the e2 shows a 5-inch wide LCD display with active digitizer, ambient light sensor, while its HDD drive is shock-mounted with drop-detect technology.
Also, the housing is rugged being made of magnesium alloy, and there are several security features such as universal security slot, VIA Padlock hardware AES encryption engine, and the Atmel TPM v1.2.
Mobile WiMAX technology brought by OQO e2 is compatible with Xohm delivering a 1.5Mbps performance speeds on the uplink and between 2 and 4 Mbps on downlink, translating to 3-5 times faster than any available mobile wireless service.
