SprintSecure Laptop Guardian

Corporate users have now the option to use the new SprintSecure Laptop Guardian service created by Sprint and Alcatel-Lucent.

The service based on Mobile Broadband connection PCMCIA card, ensures full security in case of steeling or losing a notebook, by using the latest techniques in remote monitoring, location, and locking.
The users will have to insert the card into the notebook in order to access it, and the same card can be controlled remotely by an enterprise IT administrator, only over the Sprint Mobile Broadband network.
Alcatel-Lucent provided the OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian security and management system.
The notebook guardian features:
• Embedded CPU and self-contained, hardened operating system
• Rechargeable battery supplies power to the card when the laptop is on standby or shut down
• Flash memory storage of software updates, patches or downloads while the laptop is powered off
• GPS capabilities for locating lost or stolen laptops
• Secure communications over the enterprise VPN with no additional software required on the laptop
The price of this card is estimated at $250, and additional $10 to $12 per month are required for using the optional extra security features available.
