The service based on Mobile Broadband connection PCMCIA card, ensures full security in case of steeling or losing a notebook, by using the latest techniques in remote monitoring, location, and locking.
The users will have to insert the card into the notebook in order to access it, and the same card can be controlled remotely by an enterprise IT administrator, only over the Sprint Mobile Broadband network.
Alcatel-Lucent provided the OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian security and management system.

The notebook guardian features:
• Embedded CPU and self-contained, hardened operating system
• Rechargeable battery supplies power to the card when the laptop is on standby or shut down
• Flash memory storage of software updates, patches or downloads while the laptop is powered off
• GPS capabilities for locating lost or stolen laptops
• Secure communications over the enterprise VPN with no additional software required on the laptop

The price of this card is estimated at $250, and additional $10 to $12 per month are required for using the optional extra security features available.

The notebook models with Ubuntu 7.10 will have improved hardware management, improved display systems support and Windows compatibility, and the simple 3D screen effects.

As the notebooks Inspiron E1505 N models already shipped have Ubuntu 7.04 pre-installed, Dell will provide a free automatic upgrade to the latest version of the operating system, through the Update Manager.
