NEC TYPE-N01 Limited Edition Duke Nukem Notebook

NEC Type N01 Duke Nukem LaptopsScience fiction has just collided head-on with science fact as NEC and Takara have joined forces to create the world’s first ever TYPE-01 super-powered Duke Nukem notebook.

Some of you may not remember Duke Nukem. These days, fads come and go so quickly, it is hard to keep up with, I know. For those who don’t know, Duke Nukem was a game that sold many units back in the early nineties about a character, Duke Nukem, who fought against a post-apocalyptic future. I believe that latter versions were a little darker and more violent, and I’m not certain what they did with the franchise recently.

Duke Nukem is not as famous a video game character as say, Mario, but he left his mark. As you can see, the NEC/Takara have preserved the Duke Nukem image with this limited edition notebook whose stickers, wallpaper, and keyboard setup look like something plucked right out of a Duke Nukem game.

Of course, there is more to a product than just fancy packaging. This is really a LaVie G type L laptop with a 15.4 WXGA display. It sports a 1.6GHz AMD Mobile Sempron 3200+ processor (Turion 64 X2 TL-50), 1 GB of DDR2 Ram, and 80-100GB hard drive. This thing is prepared for Wireless connectivity with 802.11 a/b/g, and it also has a DVD burner. As you can see, it also has an “emergency button” which shuts down the machine in case of intruders. (Maybe. It could just be there for show, like most of the facade.)

If this is something you need, or at least something you want, then you might have to play a different game to get a hold it. As it is, NEC plays to only make 300 of these TYPE-NO1, at a price between $1,231 or $1,476, depending on the amount of memory you want. Good luck getting your hands on this one, Duke Nukem fans!
