The LG R1 Express is an affordable 14.1-inch model from the Korean chaebol, with a list price of S$2,299, while the main distinguishing factor is the seldom-used blue hue for its top chassis.
The generic nature of the LG R1 Express is apparent in the lack of any distinctive feature or design. Created as a jack-of-all-trades but master of none, it is nevertheless one of the cheapest ways to hop onto the Core 2 Duo bandwagon with a discrete graphics card platform.
The dark navy blue cover contrasts nicely with the silver insides of the unit. Occupying an area of 335 x 236.5mm, it seems rather thick at 31.7mm. Weighing 2.46kg, it is a borderline case in terms of portability.
If you are looking for the average Joe of notebooks, the LG R1 Express may be the one to go for. Offering a comfortable array of features without too many bells and whistles, it seems a match made for the beginner who might be confused with extraneous buttons and controls.

LG Electronic announces new XNote notebooks in Korea with HSDPA, WiBro and DMB connectivity.
The new LG XNote A1 and LG XNote C1 10.6 inch notebooks weigh apparently just 1kg. The new hyper connected XNote notebooks run on an Intel Core CPU and a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GO GPU and feature a 80GB HDD. The LG XNote C1 can flip its screen over to become a tablet style computer. I cannot confirm a 100% if the LG XNote C1 has a touch screen. The translation from the Korean press-release is too bad in that context.
I guess to better enjoy watching TV on the new XNotes LG added SRS WOW HD audio enhancement.

LG are really doing a good job with their notebook line up. Their notebooks have great specs, great looks, good build quality and excellent screens.
The LG P1 Express under is a multimedia notebook that can be configured with an ATI X1600 graphics card and a Core 2 Duo processor. The model under review however has an ATI X1400 card and older Core Duo processor.
The LG P1 Express is light to carry compared to the competing 15.4" Toshiba Tecra with the same specs.
Quick Specs of reviewed model:
* Intel Core Duo Processor T2400 2.0 GHz
* Intel 945PM/GM
* 80GB HDD
* 1024 DDR2 (667GHz, Dual Channel Support, Up to 4GB)
* ATI MobilityTM Radeon X1400 (up to 512MB *HyperMemory)
* DVD Super Multi Dual Layer
LG deserves a big round of applause. Their products not only look good, they are also of superb quality. The P1 is one of the better laptops I've used. While I don't own this laptop being reviewed, I would certainly buy it if I didn't already have my 17" Toshiba P105 gaming laptop. I recommend the LG P1 to anyone that wants a desktop replacement power equivalent notebook, but not the large 17" screen size weight.

Even though the price of basic computing continues to fall, and a nice notebook can be purchased for historically low prices this year, there is still an active and competitive high end.
Notebooks like the Acer TravelMate 8204, Ferrari 4000 and 5000 series, MacBook Pro, ThinkPad T60 are some fine examples from companies looking to add some sex appeal to their lineups. I think the LG is an example of the latter.
LG's notebooks, available in North America for about a couple of years now, are generally sharp looking machines with competitive specifications. Until recently they have not had a flagship model though. Enter the S1.
This is a premium notebook, no question about it. I think it easily justifies its cost especially when stacked up against two of its closest competitors: Acer's TravelMate 8205 WLMi and the MacBook Pro.
In this league the S1 looks pretty good. The choice comes down to the LG S1 or the 8205 WLMi because of the large premium you have to pay for the MacBook Pro. I would take the LG. In my limited experience with the Acer TravelMate 8204 (one notch below the model listed above) I found its chassis to be subject to flexing and creaking. LG's S1 is built out of materials that are much nicer than the Acer (other than the carbon lid on the Acer).
Ferrari notebooks are left off the list because quite frankly the 4000 series models are considerably slower than the Core Duo notebooks listed above. I have not been able to get my hands on the new 5000 series, but I would bet on it being 15-20% slower in most tests. AMD is going to have to do something quick if they intend to compete with Intel in the high-end notebook market.
There are a lot of really good notebooks in this price range, and the two models above that I decided to pit the S1 against are just a couple of the better known models. The point of the exercise is to illustrate that if you are shopping in this range, you should put the S1 on your list.
LG has made an almost perfect notebook in the S1. It is well constructed, offers terrific performance and looks extremely stylish. Yes, you will pay a premium for this notebook but compared to its rivals it is priced aggressively.
