LG Notebook Review

When it comes to an LG notebook review, the P300 is one model that we simply had to share will all of you. Back in 2008, the price of the unit reviewed here was approximately $1800. This unit was based on a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 processor and 2 GB of RAM. The graphics card was the nVidia GeForce 8600M GS with 256 MB of dedicated video memory.

The 13.3 inch display of this notebook comes is a native resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and the glossy coating provide more sharp and vibrant colors. Horizontal viewing angles are great and distortion is only noticeable from extreme angles. The maximum display brightness level can handle even a powerfully lit room. The keyboard is very nice to type on and users will not feel they are working on a cramped space.

There is no flex registered in the keyboard area and the touchpad does not provide us with any complaining material either. The touchpad surface is very pleasant to the touch, with no friction and good sensitivity levels. The speakers are about as good as they can get on a 13.3 inch notebook. You can use them for all the regular computing activities, listening to music, watching movies and other Windows sounds and alerts.

The unit hosts 3 USB ports, one Express Card slot, an SD card reader, a Kensington lock slot, a HDMI port, a VGA out, an Ethernet port, a modem port and the headphones and microphone jacks. Quite a good selection for a 13.3 inch laptop I could add.

When first reading this LG notebook review, we never expected to find a HDMI port on this unit. When it comes to battery, we do have our preferences. And we would definitely prefer that since we buy an ultraportable laptop which we want to carry around here and there and everywhere, that this laptop also provides us with good battery performance (power outlets do not grow on the street, you know).

With the display brightness adjusted to 70% and the Windows Vista power management profile set to “balanced mode”, tests have managed to squeeze some 3 hours and 40 minutes out of the battery. It’s ok, considering that we can raise that score by lowering the display brightness with a couple of levels and set he power management profile to “power saver”.

In order to get a slimmer and lighter notebook, LG has chosen to remove the optical drive from the unit and so you will have to go with an external one. The drive that LG offers is quite slim and covered in a glossy black coating. It’s very easy to store this drive as it is small and light so no worries when you must travel. With a solid built in quality and even good gaming performance is we consider what the category average has to offer. With cool features like an integrated 1.3 mega pixel webcam and also an integrated Bluetooth, this is one ultraportable which you can’t go wrong with.

LG Notebook E300 Review

We know that LG Electronics is one of the world’s most famous TV manufacturers and we also know that they have some great mobile phone models. But how much do we really know about the notebooks they produce? I bet most of you never knew that LG even made notebooks.  I will be very honest with, I read a LG E300 notebook review and I was not impressed at all.  It does not have anything amazing in particular about it (well, maybe except for that green lid) and the specs are really basic. Let me share with you some of the information I discovered.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->
This notebook has a 13.3” wide screen which makes it ultra portable and sleek. The design is pretty cute because it gives LG a nice touch to its look and it adds something special to the user’s personality. There is a very good change you will receive you system with Windows Vista Home Premium because this notebook has an Intel Core 2 Duo processor which operates at a speed of 2.0GHz. Above the display there is a 1.3 mega pixel webcam which is ok and it might come in handy if you ever want to talk to some of you distant friends using video chat.  If you want a less powerful processor, note that this unit can also take on the supports Intel Celeron Processor 540 which operates at a speed of 1.86 GHz. You know we never recommend a Celeron Processor because they can be a real pain when it comes to multitasking as they are very slow compared to Intel Core 2 Duo processors. You will get optical drives with this unit (DVD Combo / DVD Super Multi Dual Layer). The LG E330 also has a Wireless WLAN Antenna plus a modem. Other nice features are the integrated Bluetooth device and a special security system for the HDD. The drive capacity of this notebook is 120 GB which can be considered too small compared to 250 or 320 GB which are common HDD’s for today’s notebooks.

As far as the input devices go on this notebook, we have an 84-key keyboard plus a touchpad that has good travel. The touchpad has scrolling features which may come in handy if you have long document or big web pages to read. Some of the features you may find very useful and which are always nice to have on a notebook are the 5-in-1 card reader (XD/SD/MMC/MS/MS Pro) and Express Card. As far as battery life goes, the 6-cell battery will keep your notebook turned on for about 1 hour and 40 minutes which is under the market average. The performed test was the video playback test with a DVD spinning in the optical drive. I think that a 13.3 inch display ultraportable must be able to provide at least 2 hours of notebook usage even when you are watching a movie. If you want to know more about the size of the product, it has 309 x 228.5 x 35.3~37.1 mm and it weighs around 2.04 kg. This is not very heavy but it does come close to a 15.4 inch notebook which makes you wonder if one extra kilo is not worth buying a bigger notebook. Bigger displays are always more appreciated. The resolution for the display is 1280 x 800 pixels. The video card does not provide anything special either with the ATI Radeon Xpress 1250 graphics card.

We believe the RAM provided with this notebook (1 GB) is also below the category average. To be honest, I would prefer to run Windows XP on a notebook that only has 1 GB of RAM because Vista will work much better with at least 2 GB. As for the ports and connections of this notebook, we give you the following:  USB ports, the Express card slot, the 5-in-1 media card reader, the HDMI out, D-Sub and the regular headphones and microphone jack. One nice touch was the RJ11 phone jack. This is pretty much everything we could tell you about the LG E300 notebook review.

If you liked the unit above, you should now that LG has a notebook very similar to this one, but with a 15.4 inch display. The LG S1 won an award for its design (Red Dot).  If you take a look at it, you will see that it got what it deserved. Even if the whole computer is a fingerprint magnet, both the lid and what is under it are particularly beautiful. When looking at the black lid you would expect to find black features underneath it but when you lift it everything is white. The contrast is spectacular and this really is a nice looking notebook. Even if it’s made of plastic, just by touching it you can see that it feels very solid. The unit comes with a 2.0GHz Intel Core Duo T2500 processor, the ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics card, 1 GB of RAM and 100 GB of disk space. As you can see, the specs are similar to the ones of the notebook we reviewed above.

Even if this notebook also has a 6-cell battery, you will get about 3 hours of notebook functionality If you continuously surf the internet with the wireless function turned on. This means you get about 2 hours and 30 minutes of DVD playback. In terms of performance, the notebook has managed way better than the E330. The 3DMark test gave out a very good score in the end so this notebook seems to be a really good choice for purchase. The speakers however are not impressive at all.

I hear that depending on the store where you buy this notebook, you can get a pair of LG surround headsets that can come really in handy and provide way better sound quality, perfect for you to enjoy your favorite music and movies. Other nice features are the 5-in-1 media card reader, the integrated Bluetooth device, the fingerprint reader (awesome feature for those who need extra security) and the multimedia remote control. Good job LG!

LG Prada 2 – Almost A Computer!

There's a really thin line between mobiles and computers these days. Even more, I consider some smartphones to be more than just phones, and the LG Prada 2 is one solid example - full QWERTY keyboard, smooth glossy black surface and slim profile.

LG Prada 2

Having a touchscreen display as large as 3-inch with a "classic" interface isn't enough - the LG Prada 2 comes with a capacitive multitouch interface that's very very easy to use and employs active Flash UI to get thigs done.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->
The menu looks like an updated version of the one found in the original LG Prada phone, but it's a bit smoother and sleeker than that one, if you ask me. The multitouch interface allows you to easily zoom in and out of Web pages by just pinching your fingers, just as iPhone users can, but unlike them, you'll be able to write text messages a few times faster, thanks to the slide-out QWERTY keyboard that's very ergonomic.

The features include a lot of things, like dual-band HSDPA/quad-band GSM (so you can get an unlocked one and use it on a U.S. GSM carrier), Wi-Fi, full HTML browser, stereo Bluetooth, TV-out, FM radio, a document viewer, 60MB of internal memory, a microSD card slot, as well as a 5MP camera.

Why use an unlocked LG Prada 2? Well, because it's not currently available through any US carrier, but you'll be able to grab an unlocked one for about 550 bucks, and I think this alone makes the LG Prada 2 an iPhone killer... What do you think, would you get one if given the chance? :)

LG X120

If I would be one of those really in love with technology and attractive designs, I think I simply wouldn't sleep at all these days. Why? Nightmares, that's the answer! Why nightmares? Well, just look at all the awesome netbooks already available, and they just wouldn't stop! Now, the time has come for LG X120, the cutie below!

LG X120

No, no, I am not talking about the chicks, although they are also pretty hot! ;) According to LG, the X120 should arrive by the end of this month to Japanese consumers, while Europe and 20 countries from the rest of the world should get it by the end of April.

Wondering about what's inside the box? Well, what about a 160GB hard drive, Splashtop-powered LG "Smart On" quick-boot interface and 10.1-inch WSVGA display, pushed forward by some Atom processor, all with a weight of 1.26 kg?
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->
The details are still somewhat sketchy, and the Japanese product page looks extremely funny, once you use Google Translate or any other similar service to figure out what it says. Just for the record, no matter how bad could be that translation, I simply couldn't spot any processor info, but - as a last hot piece of news - it seems the LG X120 will feature 3G HSPA connectivity.

Other than the above...just wait and we'll all see, sooner or later!

LG X110 Mini Notebook Computers in Pink

LG released its X110 mini laptop earlier this year with the high-speed 3G connectivity support, in a small form factor with mirror finish black housing.

The new mini notebook computers offer now the pink color option in addition to the classic black and white, coming in a lightweight system weighting just 1.19Kg and sporting the 10-inch widescreen LCD display with LED backlight.

Running on the Windows XP Home operating system, LG X110 performs various user-friendly applications with a low power consume, thanks to the Intel Atom processing technology at 1.6Ghz speeds.

It is a great portable solution for web browsing, chat and multimedia functions, integrating a 1.3MP LG Smart Cam web camera, 160GB hard drive storage, up to 1GB system memory, Intel GMA 950 integrated graphics, Wireless LAN, dual quad-band antenna, Ethernet connectivity, Bluetooth 2.0 with Enhanced Data Rate, SRS WOW HD, SRS TruSurround XT, stereo speakers, Kensington Lock security, a 4-in-1 card reader, 3 USB ports, and an optional 6-cell battery.

“Mobile communications is now as much about data access as it is about voice calls. With this in mind we are delighted to be entering the Netbook market with this exciting, stylish and technically advanced device. We know that people want to be able to access the internet in its entirety, wherever they are. Now we’re allowing them to do just that from a feature rich device with all of the styling people have come to expect from LG,” said John Barton, UK Sales and Marketing Director, LG Mobile, back in August.

LG X110 is prepared for the release in Europe and we don’t know its price yet, but engadget said this summer that it is expected at around $650.
