When it comes to laptop computer reviews, we came across 2 Lenovo laptop models which we think are worth mentioning as they are decent models which come at affordable prices and average specs.

The first model that managed to draw our attention is the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 13, a beautiful 13.3 inch portable laptop that comes at a starting price of $549. However, the price of the unit reviewed here is $899. The unit is based on a 1.3 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 processor and about 4 GB of DDR3 RAM. The total storage capacity of the hard drive is 320 GB. The graphics card is the integrated Intel X 4500M. The dimensions of this unit are 12.6 x 8.9 x 1.4 inches and the total weight is 3 lbs and 14.4 oz. the unit comes with the preinstalled version of the Windows 7 Professional operating system and a 13.3 inch display with a native resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels.

As for the selection of ports and features, this unit is host to no less than 3 USB ports, one VGA out, a HDMI port, a Kensington lock slot, a SDHC card slot, an Ethernet port and the regular headphones out and microphone in jacks. The HDMI port is always a nice surprise to see on a 13.3 inch laptop. Too bad there is no Blu-ray optical drive to go along with it. Thanks to the low voltage processor and the integrated graphics card, the Edge 13 does not eat up the battery life as other laptop with more power specs would do. In consequence, if you turn the display brightness to 70%, activate the wireless card and then set the Windows 7 power management profile to “balanced mode” you are going to get 7 hours of battery life which is an amazing performance, even for an ultra portable.

We were looking for a Lenovo model which was a slight bigger than the Edge 13. We read different
laptop computer reviews until we came across the Lenovo IdeaPad Y550. This unit comes with a 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 processor and 4 GB of DDR3 RAM. The total storage space of the hard drive is 320 GB while the graphics card which can be found on this unit is the integrated Intel X 4500 MHD. The unit is generally shipped with the Windows Vista Home Premium operating system preinstalled but you can now find it with the 64 bit version of the Windows 7 operating system as well. The dimensions of this unit are 15.2 x 10 x 1.02 inches while the total weight of the system is 5 lbs and 13.5 oz. the price of the unit configured in the review is $813. This unit comes with a superb 15.6 inch display which has a glossy coating plus a 1366 x 768 pixels resolution. The unit is host to 2 USB ports, one eSATA and USB combo port, a VGA out, a HDMI port, an SDHC media card reader, an Ethernet port and the regular headphones out an microphone in jacks. If you turn the display brightness up to 70%, activate the wireless card and set the Windows Vista power management profile to “balanced mode”, you will get about 3 hours and 52 minutes of battery performance.

If you want to read a good laptop review, let us take this example of the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 15. This is a laptop that comes with a 2.13 GHz Intel Core i3-330M processor and 2 GB of DDR3 RAM. The graphics card is the integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD and the total amount of storage space on this unit is 250 GB. The dimensions of this unit are 14.96 x 9.72 x 1.56 inches while the total weight of the system is 5.56 pounds. The unit comes with the 32 bit version of the Windows 7 Professional operating system and the price of the unit reviewed is $869. The 15.6 inch display of this laptop has a native resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels.

When I first looked at the keyboard’s bezel I thought “what a complete loss of space”. The keyboard seems to be really small due to the fact that there is a lot of remaining space around the keyboard which could have been used in a different manner. I think there would have been sufficient space for a numerical keypad as well. The keys are built in the same chiclet style as the one found on Sony VAIO notebooks. The touchpad is pleasant to use and it offers good response, with no signs of disturbing lag. The texture of the touchpad makes it pleasant to your finger thanks to the matte covering. The speakers of this laptop are integrated into the screen bezel and they are located right under the LCD. This means that the sound is going to be projected straight towards the user. Unfortunately, the sound is below the category average and we have come across a considerable number of other 15 inch laptop that offer more decent sound output. There is always the chance for you to attach a good set of headphones of a pair of external speakers.

As for the selection of ports and connections, it is fair to say that the Edge 15 did a good job at this chapter, as it is somewhere in the category average. The unit is host to 4 USB ports, one of which is an USB and eSATA combo port, an SD card reader, one VGA out, an Ethernet port, a HDMI port, a Kensington lock slot and the regular headphones out and microphone in jacks.

The Lenovo Edge 15 manages to do a good job when it comes to laptop usage for long hours away from a power outlet. The battery of this unit can keep the notebook on for 4 hours and 10 minutes with the display brightness set to 70%, the wireless card activated and the Windows 7 power management profile set to “balanced mode”.

When somebody speaks about Lenovo, I can’t help but imagining these big and bulky laptops which look really rugged and business like. I always associated the Lenovo laptop brand with something serious and mysterious. Even so, Lenovo notebooks have ceased to be a mystery for quite some time now and most people have started thinking about Lenovo notebooks as some of the best business laptops that money can buy.

The 12.1 inch display is covered in a matter finish which eliminates once and for all the problem with reflections when you use the laptop in a powerfully lit environment. The native resolution of this display is 1280 x 800 pixels. As for the selection of ports and connections, this unit is host to 3 USB ports, one VGA out, a modem port, the Ethernet port, an Express Card slot, an SDHC card slot and the headphones out and microphone in jacks. The price of the unit reviewed here was $1625 at the time of the review.

If you are looking for
Lenovo notebooks which are a bit bigger and just a bit more powerful, you can go with the new and improved Lenovo ThinkPad T410. This unit is based on a 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5-540M processor just like the model we presented above and it comes with the same 4 GB of DDR3 RAM. the total storage capacity of the hard drive is 320 as well but here is where the differences start pouring in. the graphics card is no longer the integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD as we are now dealing with the NVIDIA NVS 3100M with 256MB of DDR3 video memory.

Aside from that, the unit has a 14.1 inch display that comes at a native resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels so this laptop is ideal when you have a business crew that needs to work with a bigger display. The dimensions of this laptop are 13.13 x 9.41 x 1.26 inches while the total weight of the system is 5 lbs. the price of the unit reviewed is $1940. The first example of a good business Lenovo laptop is the ThinkPad W510. This unit is based on the new 2.0 GHz Intel Core i7-920XM processor and no less than 8 GB of DDR3 RAM. Due to the combination between these 2 components, this laptop is very fast and can handle multitasking without any problems at all. The total storage capacity of the hard disk is 500 GB, quite enough for any kind of files storage. Aside from having a very good processor and a huge amount of RAM, this laptop also comes with a very good graphics card which takes shapes in the nVidia Quadro FX 880M which has 1 GB of video memory.

The dimensions of this unit are 14.68 x 9.65 x 1.57 inches and the total weight of this laptop is 7.2 pounds. The price of this is $2000 so this is why it’s a business laptop as not all of us can afford such a unit, no matter how much we wish we could. The display of the ThinkPad W510 measures 15.6 inches in diagonal and it has a matte covering in order to prevent problems with reflections. The native resolution of this display is 1920 x 1080 pixels. This laptop comes with 3 USB ports plus one USB and eSATA combo port, a modem port and the Ethernet jack, a FireWire port, a DisplayPort, one VGA out, an SDHC media card reader, the Kensington lock slot, an Express Card slot and the regular headphones out and microphone in jacks.
The other Lenovo model which is a bit cheaper and thus, more affordable, is the ThinkPad Edge 14. This laptop measures 14 inches in diagonal and it comes at a native resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. The unit takes its power from a 2.13 GHz Intel Core i3-330M processor and 2 GB of DDR3 RAM. The total storage capacity of the hard drive is 320 GB and the graphics card is the integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD. As you can see, the components as not as powerful as they were in the case of the ThinkPad W510 but it’s ok, since the total price of the unit is $869, almost 3 times cheaper than the one introduced before. The dimensions of the unit are 13.5 x 9.2 x 1.5 inches and the total weight of the system is 4.94 pounds. The selection of ports and features of this unit is great for a 14 inch laptop. I think that this article is going to be good news for the small and medium business companies that are looking to buy cheap and affordable laptops for the entire staff. When it comes to purchasing a good and cheap laptop notebook, the Lenovo ThinkPad X100e may just the next best choice available.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->
For a price of $569 we can only assume that this laptop notebook is going to sell quite a lot of models since it is so affordable. Let us take a quick look thought the specs of the Lenovo ThinkPad X100e. This unit is based on a 1.6 GHz AMD Athlon Neo Single-Core MV-40 Mobile processor and 2 GB of RAM. The graphics card is the ATI Mobility Radeon3200. The total storage capacity of the hard disk is 250 GB. The dimensions of this unit are 11.1 x 8.2 x 1.2 inches and the total weight of the system is 3.3 pounds with the 6 cell battery. The display measures 11.6 inches in diagonal and it comes with a native resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. Since this unit is small and light, you can easily consider purchasing it for your sales staff which will have to carry laptop here and there and wherever business takes them. Besides, you have to remember that a sales person with a laptop will always have a more professional look. The unit is shipped with the 32 bit version of the Windows 7 Professional operating system.

The keyboard is always an important component of a laptop, especially on a business one which is most likely going to require a lot of typing. Personally, this is the first time o encountered a Chiclet style keyboard on a Lenovo laptop, especially since this is a common feature for Sony and Apple laptops. This means that you get some spacing between the keys and we are sure you are going to love this keyboard. Keys travel is excellent, making typing a real pleasure no matter if it’s for work or fun purposes. Aside from the touchpad, the Lenovo ThinkPad X100e
laptop notebook also comes with a pointing stick. The touchpad feels very pleasant to the touch and due to the acceptable response time, you can use it with no trouble at all even if, for lack of space reasons, you cannot afford to attach and external mouse. The left and right mouse buttons have a shallow clicking depth if we were to compare them with those of other ThinkPad models.

As for the selections of ports and features, the Lenovo ThinkPad X100e
laptop notebook acts like most 11 inch laptops. With 3 USB ports, one Kensington lock slot, a 4-in-1 media card slot, a VGA out, the Ethernet port and the headphones out and microphone in jacks, we cannot say that it offers amazing possibilities but it is still in the category average. Battery life you ask? Well, Lenovo could have done better. With the display brightness adjusted to 70%, the wireless card activated and the Windows 7 power management profile set to “balanced mode”, you are bound to get about 3 hours and 41 minutes of battery performance.
