General Dynamics Itronix introduced its new GD6000 vehicle-rugged portable computer destined to field technicians, law enforcement personnel and the other users who work on the go in their vehicles.

Packed with high performance components, high security and wireless connectivity, the new rugged portable computer that meets fully rugged MIL-STD 810F standards for temperature range, vibration resistance, dust ingress protection and humidity, features also a 13.3-inch DynaVue touch-sensitive display, dual task lights, quick-launch buttons, shock-mounted hard drive, an Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 processor, 120GB storage capacity, GPS module, Wi-Fi, WWAN, Bluetooth, the Computrace software and the Trusted Platform Module 1.2 security elements, all in a 6.2-lbs system with ergonomic design.

"We needed a durable notebook for our field-service technicians that could withstand the bumpy conditions of a truck environment as well as all types of Texas weather and we opted to go with the GD6000," said James Trevino, manager of Technical Services and Electrical Engineering for CPS Energy based in San Antonio, Texas. The Tablet is powered by the ULV Intel Core 2 Duo U2500 at 1.2 GHz spped with 2MB of L2 cache memory, and integrates up to 2048MB DDR II RAM.
It is a secure system based on the optional fingerprint scanner which protects it in case of lost or stolen, allowing only the right user to access it.

To support all connectivity options available at the moment, Duo-touch II comes with EDGE/GPRS/UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA, EV-DO, 802.11 a/g/n wireless module, Bluetooth and GPS tracking system, but it can also supports maximum three RF modems with the GPS functionality in the same time.

It is called Duo-Touch because the user can access it via fingers or by using a stylus, due to the active digitizer and passive touchscreen technologies supported.
It is ultra mobile and can be easily mounted on a desk or in a vehicle via the docking station or it can be coupled with a keyboard. Besides these, the Tablet PC has a Kensington lock slot, a serial port, USB and extra ports for connecting an external monitor.
