Mainstream PC manufacturer has announced a new tablet PC, the Gateway E-155C.

The thin and light E-155C is a fully-featured solution for the highly mobile user who needs the versatility of an advanced laptop with innovative tablet features.

The digital pen and touch screen capabilities make it simple to decide how to work.

Designed with complete connectivity options and the latest mobile technology, the E-155C is a lightweight, durable system designed to withstand your mobile demands. Looks like Gateway continues it love with its NX series and recently unveiled the Gateway NX570 with Core 2 Duo Goodness. With it being around 1.31~1.4-inches thick and weighing around 6.32-pounds, this one isn't portable and would be more suited for those professionals who indulge in some heavy -duty graphical application.

When Gateway calls the NX860XL a desktop replacement, it's not kidding. This massive multimedia laptop has a desk-hogging footprint, but the benefits of its grand scale are a giant, 17-inch wide-screen display and specs to rival those of a decent desktop gaming rig.

All of this semiportable goodness doesn't come cheap, however; our tricked-out version of the Gateway NX860XL cost $2,084 (the base price is $1,799).

It's a solid Media Center system for the den or the dorm room, but true home theater addicts might want to spend a bit more on a top-of-the-line HD-DVD laptop, such as the Toshiba Qosmio G35-AV660.

Small business customers looking for a lightweight widescreen travel partner should take a good look at the Gateway M255-E, which offers a speedy 2-GHz Core Duo processor along with a 14.1-inch widescreen.

It may look a bit plain on the outside, but this system has plenty of multitasking muscle and comes with a solid three-year warranty.

You don't usually think of tablet PCs as supersized, but Gateway has never been shy about making big convertibles. The company was the first to come out with a 14-inch combo years ago, and the M285-E follows suit with its 14-inch widescreen display and a powerful configuration.

All of the strengths and weaknesses of Gateway's design philosophy for convertibles still hold true in it latest generation. The M285-E is big, relatively fast, and rich in features. But at 6.2 pounds, no one will enjoy lugging it around.

On the downside, the built-in microphone lacks the sensitivity of the dual-array recording devices in some of the Electrovaya, Motion Computing, and Toshiba slates and convertibles. We wouldn't expect this model to record a meeting with any great accuracy, although it could be counted on for personal notes.

Overall, Gateway delivers an uneven convertible that delivers good performance and a large display for users who hate to squint. However, the system is too large and heavy for anything more than occasional tablet use.
