Fujitsu M2010 a Cozy Companion for your Trips

The M2010 is a Fujitsu Atom-based model that has been lately released on the market. A quickly review of its features reveals that M2010 belongs to the class of Mini-Notebooks. The OS is in Windows XP Home, has an Intel Atom N270 Processor 1.60 GHz, with a memory of 1GB DDR2 PC2-6400 SDRAM and internal storage is 160GB 5400 rpm SATA HDD. The graphics is one of the Intel GMA 950 type, wireless connection is provided by Atheros 802.11b/g, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR. It has 3 USB 2.0 ports, VGA OUT, power connector, RJ-45/Ethernet, stereo headphone/line out, stereo microphone in, and a 1.3 megapixel webcam. Its dimensions (H x W x D): 10.2" x 7.4" x 1.3" and weight: 2 lbs 8.8oz (3lbs 5.2oz with adapter) undoubtedly turn it into a netbook as well.

The build and design are very nice created with a glossy metallic red paint inside and out, having a black plastic surrounding for the keyboard and around the screen. The quality of the build is also well rendered in that no sounds of creak and squeak upon opening and closing the chassis. The screen hinges present a god tension that allows the screen to pivot smoothly. On the bottom we find the processor “Fujitsu Felt” that prevents the netbook from heating up your legs while holding it in your lap. Internal components are accessed through a single lid that lets you to change the wireless card and system memory.

fujitsu-m2010The screen reveals a brightness that doesn’t affect its viewing in the conditions of a turned on office lamp. The angles while moving around are rated average with colors that start to reverse 20 degrees forward and backward. The speakers are also rated average in that no peak volume is powered to cover larger spaces.

The keyboard is one of the smallest that exists on the market and this thing conveys the keys to appear cramped. Because it has a wide border around the keys, this occupies a space otherwise useful to enlarge the shape of the keys. But despite this detail, the touch of the keyboard is somehow good. The individual key action is neat, not much noise while typing either. The touchpad includes multi functions such as Flick, Pinch and Chiral Rotate, the latter used to rotate a selected object at a 90 degrees angle.

Tests were run to observe other benchmarks and while hopping into the BIOS, it was observed the possibility of switching HyperThreading on or off, though the default setting was off. As soon as it is back on, M2010 speeds up and performs like any other netbook. Having these optimal performance settings, Fujitsu M2010 is a cozy companion for your trips allowing you to do HD video decoding, web surfing, photos editing or documents typing. The battery is a small 3-cell 25Wh that holds an average of time between 2 to 3 hours; with a larger one M2010 would have been a great competitor to the newer netbooks available on the market.

Fujitsu M2010

A cool laptop doesn't really have to be colorful, and I still think about kitsch vs coolness each time I see a new model that's anything but black, white, dark blue or gray. The Fujitsu M2010 is such a portable computer, and I must confess I like it, despite the colors used. Just take a look at the image below - kitsch or too cool? ;)

Fujitsu M2010

According to the company behind it, "The Fujitsu M2010 defines what an all-in-one nifty mobile companion for work, school and play should look like and work like." While I agree somehow with the "work" and "school" parts, I have to think about the gaming part a little. Since when are netbooks gaming machines? Well, I could be wrong, but netbooks ARE NOT gaming machines, that's what I know.

Speaking about hardware, the Fujitsu M2010 packs the 1.6GHz Atom processor with the Intel 945 GSE chipset, 1GB of DDR2 memory running at 533MHz, 160GB hard drive, and a 10.1-inch WSVGA screen, all nicely fitted in the ~1kg little beast. Just for your information, the M2010's screen has a 16:9 ratio, a 1024X576 resolution and 200 nits brightness with 400:1 contrast ratio.

As Mr Lim Teck Sin, Director of Product Marketing for Fujitsu says, "The huge popularity of the Fujitsu M1010 has spurred Fujitsu to deliver an even more wholesome experience in our netbook category. The new Fujitsu M2010 is designed to give users higher productivity and efficiency at work with greater visual enhancement and connectivity experience at play. In all, the Fujitsu M2010 upholds the true mobility assurance that Fujitsu is so committed to deliver and users so desire to have." Eh, still those indecent references to gaming... but WHY?!?

While all the above doesn't really sound like a $650 netbook to me("$650 netbook" sounds kind of ridiculous, anyway), you should also take into account the fact that Fujitsu will sell the M2010 bundled with a wireless mouse and a DVD burner. Now, that's better, don't you think? :)

Fujitsu LifeBook N7010 Dual Screen Laptop

Why should only flip phones have two displays? Fujitsu has introduced a new laptop computer destined to those who want to replace their desktop system with a mobile one. It is called Fujitsu LifeBook N7010 and brings an innovation in portable computing design.

The new computer is a dual screen laptop. While flip phones have a main display and an external one showing missed calls, messages and the time, this laptop model keeps the large screen and adds a very small display of just 4 inches at the top of the dust-filter, spill-resistant keyboard keyboard. It is called the Touch Zone because it features touch-sensitivity and is meant to display the shortcuts to different controls and applications, enhancing productivity.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->
The main display measures 16 inches, an untypical size for laptop screens, and uses the Crystal View Display technology, which enhances the image quality with more brightness and richer colors.

Fujitsu LifeBook N7010 is the world’s first dual screen laptop, both displays working simultaneously. The example given by Fujitsu sounds cool and you got to hear it. While you are working on a project on the 16-inch screen you ask for instruction via instant messaging, using the 1.3MP web camera and the built-in microphone, on the small screen.
Other functions you can control by touching the small display include CD/DVD, picture slide shows, or you can just launch applications.

The dual screen laptop has a processing power of 2.26GHz via an Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 and features also Blu-ray ROM optical drive for High Definition content, HDMI connectivity for compatible TVs, an ATI Radeon HD 3470 graphics card with 256MB GDDR3 dedicated memory, support for 2GB HyperMemory, card slot, E-Sata port, wireless N support, touchpad with gesture control, Bluetooth, and shock-mounted hard drive.

You can order the laptop with two displays starting today at a price of $1,499.
