Additional Memory for My Compaq Laptop
Posted by: LaptopsArena in Compaq
The memory inside a laptop computer helps improving the speed in processing applications, tasks, and games and so on. The more memory and the higher level of memory you have, DDR2, DDR3 and so, the better the system will run and score in benchmark tests. But not all laptop computers are upgradable when it comes to adding memory; some already have the maximum installed. Compaq laptops have this specified in the specifications list on their main website, or you can also check the manual and see exactly the amount of memory installed inside and the maximum supported. And in case you want “additional memory for my Compaq laptop”, the process will not give you a lot of headache, because it is easy to be done and with a little patience and the right steps you will be able to improve the speed of your system.

First of all, check the type of memory you have inside your Compaq laptop, so you can buy compatible memory. You can do this by accessing Compaq’s main website, by entering the exact model of your laptop. The next step is the actual buying process of the memory. Always buy from a trusted source, either online or from an electronic store. Just keep in mind that if your laptop has 1GB of memory inside, it means there are two 512MB sticks, so you will need to buy two 1GB sticks to reach 2GB. The maximum allowed memory inside a Compaq is usually 2GB or 4GB, so be sure you do not exceed the limit. Power off your laptop and flip it over to see the bottom. If you can’t find the compartment, check the manual and see its exact location. After locating it, take the cover out and you will see the sticks of memory which should be like the ones you bought. Once you push the memory inward, it will automatically pop out of its place. Take the memory sticks out and slide the first stick you bought in the bottom slot at a 90 degree angle. Before you get it right and secure the memory correctly, you might need to do it a couple of times. After doing the bottom slot, use the same technique for the top slot.

Moreover, replace the compartment cover and put the screws back on. When screwing them, be sure you don’t do it too tight, because they could damage the memory sticks inside. It is best to leave them a bit lose, still secured but not forced. Flip the laptop over, turn it on and once the operating system loaded completely, click on Start, go to Control Panel, then System Information and see the amount of memory you have installed in the Memory section. In case you installed 4GB, you should see that amount mentioned there. In case you did everything right, then you have nothing else to do than to enjoy the new performance level of your laptop computer. If the information is not properly mentioned, then you need to repeat the process until Compaq recognizes the memory. You probably didn’t install it correctly.

Finally, make sure you put the memory in the right way and if you are not sure how to do it, just check the manual. Again, be sure you buy the right kind of memory.
