On the regular laptop you can indeed play some games, but you have to have some special requirements to be able to handle anything that shows up on the market. There are three models of Alienware laptops so far, of course the latest ones, because we will not include the older versions: m11x, m15x and m17x. The numbers of each represent the size of the display. It all depends on what you need something portable, the normal-size design or a powerful home-use system, which will definitely stay on your desk and not move an inch outside the house. Let’s go through these models, so you can make an idea on what to expect and what you actually get for the money you pay.

To start with, Alienware m11x features impressive performance in such a compact design. The battery life is long and the switchable graphics enable some high-end scores in Benchmark tests. But you have to sacrifice the lack of the optical drive and the processor, because the small size always comes with some compromises. For a 11.6” laptop, the specifications and the compact design are something to take into account. And what is more, for travelers and users on the go, who can’t just give up their need of playing, the laptop performs exceptional and it is an affordable alternative. The starting price is $799, but you will need to invest some more on upgrades if you are going to expand the capabilities. For example, if you are willing to pay around $1150, you can get the 1.3 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 3GB DDR3 memory, spacious 500 GB hard drive and Nvidia GeForce GT 335M and Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics. The operating system is the latest Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

The next one is Alienware m15x, which also performs impressively for a 15” laptop, is highly configurable and the 16: 9 display helps enabling the best image quality for your gaming needs. Even though we are talking about a mainstream laptop, that has actually a reasonable size, the laptop is bulky and you might have some problems carrying it around. Again, the starting price is $1349, but with some more investments you can get more performance. An example of configuration includes the Intel Core i7 processor, 4GB DDR2 RAM, 500GB hard drive, 1GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 260M and Windows 7 Ultimate. Thanks to the minimalistic design, you will not get distracted that easily.

And the last Alienware model is m17x, the ultimate gaming desktop-replacement system. It is worthless to say how fast and performing the laptop is and how highly configurable in the same time. With some of the best components inside, striking looks (not subtle and not minimalistic in any way), the laptop costs and you should be aware of this. There are two 500GB hard drives, Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme processors, 8GB DDR3 memory, two SLI Nvidia GeForce GTX 280M and a brilliant 17” display. If you are willing to pay around $5000 to get all these, go ahead because you will not be sorry.
