Just how big is Alienware’s 19-inch, SLI-based top-of-the-line mALX gaming laptop? Packed into the box is a backpack seemingly large enough for an Everest climb. With dual Nvidia Go 7900 GTX cards and dual HDD support up to 240GB, the Alienware Aurora mALX may be the ultimate rig for flying through the latest games at the highest settings.
At 15 pounds and a base price of $4,499 (our configuration costs $5,549), this system is best suited for LAN parties. Wherever you take the Alienware Aurora mALX, it will dominate the competition.
The mALX’s 3DMark scores promised good things to come (27,116 on 03 and 5,624 on 06), and it generated stellar frame rates in F.E.A.R.: 85 fps on auto-detect and 81 fps with settings maxed. Even with 4X full-screen antialiasing and all lighting and shadow options enabled, that performance was absolutely smooth. The view was so nice we wanted to play the game all over again.
The excellent gaming performance doesn’t quite mean perfect productivity. While the Alienware Aurora mALX is capable of handling any aspect of media and document creation, the AMD processor benchmarks slightly lower than Intel’s Core Duo chips. This huge system requires a lot of power; the battery drained in just over an hour. Wi-Fi strength isn’t great, either, with a mere 8.1 Mbps at 15 feet and 5.9 Mbps at 50 feet.
We were disappointed that despite the ample space, dedicated media controls don’t make an appearance. That’s a notable omission, even though they’re not part of Alienware’s typical design. As a consolation, a Windows Media Center remote is available.

I would recommend the Alienware Area-51 m5750 to anyone that is the above average serious computer enthusiast. It is not the top-shelf computer at Alienware; it is one of their mid-range laptop. It suits my needs very well.
It doesn't come feature heavy like other laptops coming out today (there is no camera and no bluetooth for instance), but it does come complete with better basic materials: an above average screen resolution, great video card, great sound, and of course the best processor on the market today. I'm very happy with my purchase.
I would say that it is a little more money than other machines, but I can't find a mainstream manufacturer with similar specs to really do a fair comparison. I'm confident that this machine will last. The case design and components are just what I was looking for and should keep me with a grin on my face for many years to come.

Today we will be evaluating Alienware's midrange gaming notebook, the 15.4" Area-51 m5550. It is clearly targeted at the gaming and enthusiast crowd, featuring an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, powerful Nvidia graphics, and Alienware's unique case design.
With specifications like our test machine, it gives a new meaning to the word 'performance', and sets itself apart from the competition.
The Alienware Area-51 m5550 is one of the few notebooks I have tested that I feel delivers an outstanding ownership experience.
Granted, it does have its flaws -- poor battery life, a warm operating temperature, and average viewing angles, but no product is going to be perfect, and this one is no exception.

Alienware plans to add some color in our drab existence by making the Aurora m9700 notebooks available in colors like Conspiracy Blue and Cyborg Green.
Not only is the notebook getting a physical makeover but it will now have more juice thanks to the dual 512MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS graphics cards making it the first 17" notebook to include 1GB of graphics memory.
Thus now the Aurora m9700 notebook will be available in hues like Conspiracy Blue, Cyborg Green or Saucer Silver and will be every gamers delight. With two 160GB hard drives (that means 320 GB of space!) and dual 512MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS graphics cards one can run graphic intensive applications with ease.

Alienware has been building gaming notebooks longer than any other company here, and its experience shows in the 9.5-pound Aurora m9700. Anything weighing less than ten pounds is positively svelte in a crowd like this. The Aurora m9700 is encased in a solid chassis adorned with Alienware’s trademark glowing AlienEyes and rubberized grips.
Notable features include a 1.3-MP tilting camera above the display, a touch-sensitive, quick-launch pad, and a front-mounted optical drive. Positioning the optical drive away from the sides allows for better port distribution and makes room for the RAID configuration that is fast becoming a company standard.
Alienware takes the crown for packing SLI graphics into a 17-inch, sub ten-pound notebook; the Aurora is certainly more portable than Vigor and Voodoo’s giants and more powerful and affordable than the Dell XPS M1710. With SLI starting at $2,396, this should be the first choice for all but the wealthiest gamer.
