There are many advantages and some disadvantages when you want to build your own laptop. In some cases you can end up with a batter system than the phone already on the market, you have the chance to choose the part you want and that is a great advantage. You can choose the display you want and see if you want a smaller one so you can easily carry it around, or a larger one for a desktop replacement, types of connectivity you want, different Wi-Fi card support.

These are some of the advantages, but let’s see where the problems are. Ok, so you decided to build your own laptop from scratch. First of all you have to find the right components and here you have the chance to save some money, because prices differ in retail stores or online, you can get the same processor but with fewer money. Then you will have to get lots of information and see which are the best or some of the top-rated processors or graphics. Choosing between Intel and AMD is preferential.

If you want to save some money you can go for AMD processors, but if you want Intel it means you are looking to run some intensive applications, 3D games and so on. You will surely feel the difference when it comes to speed and performance; just choose at least dual-core to make sure you get some of the excitement. Then comes the RAM issue, DDR2 or DDR3? If you get at least 1GB of RAM or 2GB you will definitely improve your system and everything will work at a better speed, you will have no problems in handling multi-tasking.
Moving on, there is the hard drive issue. You want a large 250GB and more or you can settle with 160GB. It depends on what are you going to do on your laptop. You have to think about the fan as well. You don’t want to overheat your laptop so all parts get burn. You need to make sure you will provide a cool temperature.

Working for hours on the laptop will be possible with a good and reliable fan. Battery is also very important and there are different types, 3 cell, 6 cell, 9 cell and 12 cell Lithium-Ion batteries. It depends again on how much time you want to work wireless.
If you are mainly on the road or want to take the system to classes you might want to choose 6-cell or 9-cell so you will have at least 2-3 hours of use. The operating system issue must be discussed. Windows XP is one of the best choices, because it installs the drivers automatically for some of the components, so it will ease up your job. If you want Windows Vista you will have to install at least 1GB of RAM. Windows 7 is of course an enjoyment, but it comes a bit more expensive and with more sacrifices.

In conclusion, there are many issues when you want to build your own laptop, you need to think about manufacturers and be sure components will work together, match components of the same manufacturer just to be safe and be sure to assemble all parts and hinge them together well.
